Don't worry about what other people will think.
Don't stress about the day because everything will work out perfectly in the end and if it doesn't you wont even care.
BE yourself and let people see who you really are as a couple.

Your wedding is your day. It should reflect you and your partner, the kinds of people you are and the kind of family you are creating.

We got married in our backyard with 60 of our closest family and friends with everyone in the bridal party wearing black pants including me! You do what you are comfortable with and tell anyone who objects that they can do their own thing at their next wedding, but you'll do your own thing at yours. ;)

I would suggest spending money to get a good photographer as this is what you have left after the day is all done and dusted. I think it was the best money we spent. We also didn't go with a traditional photo album package but asked our photographer to put together a deal for us for prints and framed images, that way our photos are not just in a cupboard somewhere but are displayed around our home.

Just a couple
1. Remember, the day is about YOU, not your parents, his parents, your maid of honour, etc etc
2. You will probably only wear the dress once - you can get gorgeous white dresses that are technically debutante dresses / formal dresses for literally 1/10 of the cost. My dress cost $300, and I'm damn proud of it!
3. If there's something you love and need to have, splurge. We fell in love with a wedding cake that cost 3x what my dress did
4. Relates back to 1 - don't compromise on what you want. You'll only do it once
5. Take pictures of your hair and make up trial to make sure you get what you're expecting on the day. (I rarely look at my wedding photos because I'm so angry about the alien-head I ended up with. Seriously, the trial was magnificent, the actual day very meh. Don't make the same mistake!!)
