Nude food movement

Each year Australians produce 21 million tons of waste. It is estimated that most kids produce approx 30kg of waste each year from their school lunches alone. And with most of it being plastic of some sort that will take for ever to break down.

We could significantly reduce this waste by making lunch time nude…for the food that is! (tho we won’t judge you if you want to eat your lunch nude ;) )

KeepCup-Reusable Coffee cups

keepcupStop and think for a moment, how many disposable coffee cups would you use in one week? Due to the way they are made, disposable coffee cups are not able to be recycled, and they can take up to 50yrs to biodegrade in landfill.

Australians discard into landfill 1.36 million disposable cups a day. This is a phenomenal amount, imagine this figure globally!

KeepCup is a fantastic Aussie invention helping to reduce the amount of disposal cups being tossed out everyday.

The KeepCup is a reusable coffee (or tea, juice or soup if your like) The cups are unbreakable, made from recyclable materials and are said to last about 4yrs. And most importantly, fit perfectly into your cars cup holder.

Imagine how many disposable cups just one of these would save.

There are 2 sizes in the store, Small 227ml/8oz- $7.80 and Medium 340ml/12oz- $8.20. There is also mention of a large 16oz cup (which would be much more my size!) and a 4oz Babycino size coming soon.

GoGet CarShare

Living in Sydney’s inner-west, I often see zippy little cars with the GoGet logo on them. I finally got around to looking into what it is – and it’s quite a clever concept!

goget_carshare_webGoGet CarShare is a professional car sharing service. There are cars located in varying places (Sydney’s inner-city seems to be the busiest place) and it’s a basic process of booking a car in a particular location (can be done from 5 minutes ahead to a year in advance), swiping your card to get access to the car and voila!

There are 3 different pricing levels, but you basically pay:

  • A monthly membership fee
  • An hourly rate for your car booking
  • A per km rate
  • A $500 security deposit.

You don’t pay for petrol! Or servicing!

If I didn’t have to drive to work I would be seriously considering joining GoGet. Comparing how much I pay for insurance, petrol and rego, this would be a far more economical option for inner-city living.

Envirosax

In the early days, green bags were all the rage in supermarket shopping. Nowadays I’m finding myself wanting something different and, well, NOT GREEN.

Hello, Envirosax!

envirosax

These are from the Kids, Graphic and Grocery Series of bags and there are more in the bamboo, linen and hemp ranges. Prices are $7.95-$24.95 plus shipping if you buy online.

There are plenty of stockists listed on their site and I’m now planning my weekend around where I can go and take a look at these babies.
