Nude by Nature

nudebynatureI could probably count on one hand the amount of times I have worn makeup this year. I am not a makeup girl, and I guess a lot of it comes down to having trouble finding the right product and colour for my skin, I have tried quite a few.

I went into Priceline the other night to check out what was on offer and got chatting to one of the girls. She suggested I try some Nude by Nature.

Nude by Nature is a 100% mineral make up that consists of just 4 ingredients. It evens out your complexion and conceals imperfections and blemishes. The mineral formula is kind to even sensitive skin and will not block pores. It is also water resistant and provides added UVA/UVB protection.  It is Australian made and owned and not tested on animals.

I have seen their ads on TV, and their site is a little spammy  looking (I am not even going to link to it) which does them no favours. Given the dodgy marketing I would never have given it a second thought before being given a demo.

It is meant to be used as a 3 part system, a bronzer, the main foundation and a finishing veil. At $40, I wasn’t about to buy them all, it’s a bit more than the crappy $15 stuff I usually buy (perhaps there in lies my problem) So I just bought the Mineral cover to give it a try.

I am totally in love! It is awesome. So easy to apply, even for a n00b like me. Covers your spots and uneven skin tone all with the swirl of a brush. Great for summer when you might get a little sweaty. Even the manpet commented, and it usually takes him 2 weeks to notice I’ve had a haircut. I’m not into a bronzer, but I will definitely be going back for the finishing veil which.

Available from Priceline and other cosmetic retailers for around $38 (definitely steer clear of buying from their TV ads or website, way too expensive)

Hamburger cushions – new Aussie icon?

What’s not to love about having cushions that combine to create a giant hamburger?

hamburger-cushions

Usually when I find these sorts of ‘unique’ things on teh interwebs, they’re European or American. BUT THIS IS AN AUSSIE CREATION! Woohoo!

They’re the creation of Melbourne-based Gemma Patford.

The hamburger cushion set is unfortunately sold out, but Gemma also has cushions for milk crates for sale on her Etsy store. I’ve got quite a collection of milk crates myself, and the cushions would definitely make them a lot more comfortable!

Furminator

I love my kittehs, but I don’t love finding their fur all over everything we own!

Bear is a DSH x Devon Rex and doesn’t really shed too much, but Elvis is a straight DSH and sheds enough fur for all of Sydney. It’s everywhere! No sooner do I finish vacuuming the house and there are new fur tumbleweeds rolling down the hallway.

I can’t tell you how many brushes I’ve bought over the last eight years – each claiming to be better than the rest, which they clearly weren’t.

And then I met the Furminator.

I first discovered the Furminator on dooce.com and immediately bought myself one from an Australian eBay store (sorry, can’t remember which). It proved cheaper to go that way rather than finding a store in Sydney with stock or ordering from the US.

THIS. THING. IS. AMAZING.

It’s basically a clipper blade with a moulded handle. Therefore it’s expensive cause the blade goes for virtually nothing on its own. But it’s oh, so worth it.

Exhibits A and B:

Here’s Bear with his giganto ball of fur. This was the result of the 3rd 30-minute session with Bear and the Furminator this week. And Bear doesn’t shed much. The pic on the right is the Furminator after a 2-inch run along the back of Elvis’ neck. Elvis and I have a LOT of work to do.

You can check out the videos on the official Furminator website for what I now call Furminator porn. Sad, but true!

The Furminator is available in varying sizes, cheapest being about AU$45, depending on where you buy from. Clipperworld is one place worth looking at.

Pet Care Shop

The weather is warming up, which means one thing for your furry family.. FLEAS!petcare

It has been years since we have had to use flea treatments, our new house seems to attract them.

So I went in search for the cheapest place to buy flea treatment online. I still can’t get over how the stores can charge nearly double the amount!

I came across Pet Care Shop. The prices were great, postage was cheap and very fast.

What is your favourite online store for pet supplies?

How to Take Stunning Portraits

DPS eBookIf you own a digital camera, chances are you’ve been to Digital Photography School at least once. That web site is chock-a-block full of tips and inspiration – one of my favourites in my Google Reader.

Darren’s announced a new e-book called The Essential Guide to Portrait Photography, which he describes as “brimming with portrait photography advice, tips and imagery. It’s a collection of some of our best previously publish tutorials which have been updated for this edition – plus some new previously unpublished content”.

Best of all, the e-book is available for one week for $US14.95 – 25% off!

I’m setting myself a reminder to buy this closer to the weekend, after payday :D
