Notebook: Magazine’s classes in The Craft Room
Sydney-sider crafty-wannabes (oh, hai!), have you heard the awesome news?
Notebook: Magazine is offering craft classes!
They’re calling it The Craft Room and will be starting with Sydney classes in May and June, but have promised to expand to Melbourne and other capitals in the near future.
They’re offering sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, quilting, scrapbooking AND CUPCAKE DECORATING!
Guess which one Leigh and I have registered for already? (Yay cupcakes!). We’re sofa king excited to be going – and Liz is coming with us, too! Yogi from Sweet Dreams Cakes will be our teacher and it looks like she makes spectacular cupcakes – nom!
(Shh, don’t tell Leigh or Liz, but I want to peer-pressure them to come to the beginner’s sewing class. It’s taught by Corrie, and if you take a look at what she makes, you’ll see why I’m so keen to go for a lesson!).
The classes are reasonably priced (we seem to think so, unless anyone has any knowledge/experience to share?) with the cupcake decorating class costing us $75 for a three-hour class (though it’s going up to $95 for the June timetable). The bigger, all-day classes are $200+. The sewing classes are sponsored by Brother, featuring brand-new sewing machines to play on!

I need to do a sewing class, my poor neglected machine!
It looks like cupcake decorating turns into cake decorating, perhaps explaining the price rise? (More ingredients needed?)
I love that they’re putting these on – but my bank balance isn’t!

I can’t wait. I want to do one of each! We may need second jobs to pay for our addiction.

Fiona, can you come up for the sewing class with us?
(Liz, I think you’re onto something, but I’m so glad we’re doing cupcakes and not full cakes!)
I would like to also publicly blame Leigh for making me want to do the beginner’s crochet course, too. Might have to cancel the wedding at this rate! ;)
I wish our wedding wasn’t so close so I could afford more!
I signed up for quilting in June because I’ve always wanted to learn – now I’ve just gotta re-save that money before the end of May.

the quilting would be so awesome, but i’m nowhere near ready for that kind of sewing yet
you’d be so proud of me – found Dan’s gran’s crochet hooks and some wool and am now teaching myself over YouTube. saving $$$ so far! ;)
wow so glad you’re excited about our classes as much as we are! we had our first cake decorating classes today and they were a hit..everyone made the most professional cakes…we priced our may classes without realising the real cost of all of our ingredients…but watching everyone ice their chocolate mud cupcakes with chocolate ganache and fondant…mmmmmm making me hungry now!!!!
Corrie;)
