Lighten the load this Christmas

Redkite is an Australian not-for-profit charity and they have asked that we all give a Gift-in-Kind this Christmas and lighten the load for families affected by childhood cancer. A gift of $75 can connect parents across Australia to vital counselling support over Christmas, no matter where they live.

Do you have people in your life who already have everything? This is the perfect practical gift to give to those very people — they can then start the new year feeling warm and fuzzy in the knowledge that they’ve helped a family who’s doing it tough.

It’s hard to think about sick kids at Christmas, but they’re out there. Imagine the  joy you could give these littlies and their families.

Redkite provides a range of services that help support families caring for young kids with cancer. This Christmas, over 8,000 families on the cancer journey will feel weighed down emotionally and financially. These gifts can lighten that load:

  • A gift of $55 can pay for a child’s mobile phone bills so they can stay in touch with their family this holiday season.
  • $75 can connect parents across Australia to vital counselling support no matter where they live.
  • Donating $120 can help a child manage the stress of gruelling treatment by funding a Redkite music therapy session.
  • Giving $800 can help a bereaved parent talk with others who are grieving in a Redkite telephone support group.

To donate, please visit www.redkite.org.au or call 1800 334 771.

Dogtober – Cute Puppy Ads With a Twist

Yes, I am quite well aware that it is in fact November but  this was just too cute and LOL not to share.

Dogtober is a yearly fundraising campaign for Assistance Dogs Australia.

These are a series of very clever TV ads combining super cute Golden Retriever puppies and narration by funny man John Cleese.

I don’t recall seeing these TV ads? And they only seem to have been added to their youtube channel last week.

(if you are in your feed reader, you may need to click through for the super cuteness)

Glee is coming to Australia!

You love Glee, right?

There’s a Glee convention coming to Sydney and Melbourne in July! ATM only Mike Chang is confirmed, but more Glee stars are promised.

Considering sci-fi conventions in Australia can cost upwards of $150, the $95 day pass for the Glee convention is actually quite cheap.

Who wants to come with us?

RSPCA Cupcake Day

Grab your mixing bowl, dust off your chef’s hat and get ready to bake up a storm for the RSPCA because Monday 16 August 2010 is Cupcake Day.

Last year 350,000 cupcakes were baked around the country and this year the RSPCA is hoping that even more people take part in this yummy fundraiser.

Getting involved in Cupcake Day is deliciously easy. Head to www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au – its’ free to register and there are loads of great recipes, tips and party ideas, or download ‘The Ultimate Cupcake Day Guide’ for the best Cupcake Day ever!

Last year $1.1 million was raised across Australia and this year the RSPCA is hoping to raise $2.5 million but they need your assistance. “Every year the RSPCA cares for over 155,000 animals and as we receive less than 2% of in government funding, we rely on the community to continue,” said RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman.

To help the RSPCA continue their fight against animal cruelty please Choose Wisely and bake cupcakes only using eggs from RSPCA Approved or cage-free farming systems. This way you’re raising much-needed funds for the RSPCA and helping to get hens out of cages too! And the cherry on top is that for every $100 raised online you’ll receive an entry into the draw to win two Kymco Scooters (valued over $7,500).

Help the RSPCA make Monday 16 August 2010 the sweetest day of the year. If you can’t be involved on this date, you can still hold your Cupcake Day Party at any time during the month of August 2010.

Register now at www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au and help the RSPCA continue their fight against animal cruelty.

Come to the Save The Children Charity Show @ The Basement, 17th April

I’m heading down to Sydney’s iconic The Basement to a charity gig for the Save the Children fund on April 17th.

It’s being headed by BrowN SuGar, a Sydney-based R’n’B/funk band that covers all the awesome old-school songs. They’ve lined up a bunch of special guests to sing along with them on the night, including Ngaiire Joseph, Steve Clisby, Carmen Smith, Junior, Alphamama, Miguel George and the iconic Doug Williams.

Who wants to come with me?

Save the Children has been fighting for children’s rights since 1919.

Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organisation, making a difference to children’s lives in more than 100 countries.

From emergency relief to long-term development, Save the Children secures a child’s right to health, education and protection.

Two months after Haiti was devastated by a 7-magnitude earthquake, thousands of children and families who were already facing a daily struggle to recover from the disaster now must contend with the rainy season. Save the Children is working to assist survivors and support children as they attempt to rebuild their lives.

Save the Children Australia manages and implements programs in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. We also support development programs through our global network in selected countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Tickets are $35 for general admission or $88.80 for dinner and show.

Tickets available by calling The Basement on 9251 2797 or going to The Basement‘s web site or MoshTix.

World’s Greatest Shave

The World’s Greatest Shave is the Leukemia Foundation’s major fundraiser in Australia each year.

Sorry, I couldn’t bring myself to shave my head. I have had a bad haircut waaaay too short, and that was traumatic enough. I would happily dye it though.

Thankfully there are 1000′s of other brave souls willing to shave for a wonderful cause.

Naomi, my partner in crime over at All for Women (she is the good cop :P) has come home form her year in Denmark a little crazy..and has decided to shave her head! She is so brave..her hair is pretty long.

She has set a goal of $500, but has already raised over $1000. So, if you would like to get behind this great cause, and are looking for someone to sponsor. Naomi is your girl >here<

Rah and I have already donated. She has asked for a few hat related That’s Noice posts to get her through the baldness *hehe*
