Meet the newest restaurant at the Queen Victoria Building – Fat Buddha.
We’ve been to the QVB for dinner before; while Cellini’s is a cafe-style eatery, Fat Buddha is a fully-fledged restaurant — complete with the full napkin-placed-in-your-lap treatment. Very noice!
We’re surrounded by all sorts of diners – big family groups, smaller groups of friends, couples and even one woman who comes on her own after a hard day’s shopping.

We loved the introductory paragraph in the front of the menu:
Love, Eat & Celebrate — Celebration plays a big part in Chinese culture, no festivity can take place without food or a banquet.
At Fat Buddha, we strongly believe that food itself is a celebration. We select dishes that we love and are true to our
authentic Cantonese origins. Humble, respect and sustainability is the core of our approach to our sublime menu.
The menu at Fat Buddha is wide and varied. Prices are reasonable with many mains below the $30 mark. We struggled to choose what we wanted to eat (we should have checked the menu on the Fat Buddha web site first to save us some time!). Lucky for us, the staff were very attentive and patient while we asked questions, ummed, ahhed and finally made our choices.
We chose well!
Vegetarian spring rolls (2pcs) $6.80

Fried rice with barbeque pork and shrimps $16.80
Steamed prawn dumplings (4pcs) $10.80
Garlic king prawns $33.80

Deep fried duck with plum sauce $24.80 (our favourite!)
Roasted pork belly cubes with XO chilli sauce $24.80
We were so full from trying to eat everything that we were going to skip dessert. But Fat Buddha’s owner, Kim Yee Joy wouldn’t let us go without trying the dessert. Kim fetched us mango pancakes (Leigh couldn’t believe that I’d never eaten mango pancakes – zomg they’re like mango Weiss bars!) and Coconut Pudding, which has a touch of ginger flavour. Leigh preferred the pancakes and I preferred the pudding – though it was a pretty close contest, to be honest.

We really enjoyed having a girls night out at Fat Buddha. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and we loved the noice-yet-friendly atmosphere. It was a treat to meet Kim and chat with her about food as well.
