3 new delish Ben & Jerry’s flavourites hit delis in Sydney & Melbourne

I was a Ben & Jerry’s virgin..*gasp* yes..it is true. Living all the way out here (Western Sydney) we don’t get all those special goodies. While I must admit I am not a huge ice cream fan..boring old vanilla for me, when I was given the chance to try out some of the new pint flavours last week, I was a little excited.

The three new dairylicious flavours will only be available in 458ml pint tubs (RRP $11.95) in select delis around Sydney and Melbourne. They join the five flavours already available: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chunky Monkey, Strawberry Cheesecake and Vanilla.

Phish Food and Triple Caramel Chunk we’re the flavours I tried.

Now, being the virgin that I was, you can forgive me at first for wondering how a) srsly people pay $11.95 for this tub of ice cream?! and b) sit and eat it basically in one go.

I was good, and waited for manpet to get home from work before digging in. We cracked open the Phish Food, which is chocolate, marshmallow and cute little choc fish. I only got one spoon in before he had claimed it and ran off. I guess that left the Triple Caramel Chunk for me, caramel ice cream with a swirl of caramel and little mini rolo like things..Z.O.M.G! Must.have.MOAR!

So, while I didn’t eat it all in one go (I spread it out over 2 sittings) I now ‘get it’…will have to find a deli that isn’t too far away.

What did the kids think? Pfft, don’t be stupid..you think I shared any with them?!

The Ben & Jerry’s crew over on Facebook offered a good explanation for the price…

Hey Guys! We agree that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is quite expensive but we have ourselves a mission ‘to make the best possible ice cream in the nicest possible way’ and so this means.
You may not know this but the ice cream we have in Australia is manufactured in the state of Vermont, in the north eastern part of the United … See MoreStates. Ben and Jerry’s is made using distinct and specialized processes and manufacturing and there is currently no production unit in these parts that is equipped to handle our unique formulations and signature chunks and swirls. In our overall values led sourcing policy, we try to be as responsible as possible so ideally we’d like to produce all Ben & Jerry’s for Australasia and Asia centrally to reduce our climate impact and also to reduce costs, so we are assessing the long-term viability of this, including solutions to ingredient sourcing. In the meantime we are working with a local partner on a carbon offsets program, investing in a renewable energy project to reduce the impact of shipping our ice cream to Australia.

Half baked is my favourite B&J ice cream, so I’m hellishly excited!

Hello, $12 for not even half a litre?! Blue Ribbon Ice Cream costs $6 for 2 litres ($1.50 for half a litre) . B&J is good, but not THAT good.

Yeah..it is a bit on the $$ side. But I wouldn’t really compare it to Blue Ribbon, which is great too dont get me wrong..but Ben & Jerry’s isn’t the kind of ice cream you sit down to a huge heaped bowl full covered in Ice magic.

You aren’t going to eat it every day, I think it more for a special treat when you want to reward yourself..or need a bit of cheering up.

Yes, I think we need a TN weight loss program between all the cupcakes, Magnum Gold and now Ben and Jerry’s!

Why is it so expensive? When I lived in the US the same size tub cost $4. Aussies are suckers.

It’s not just B&J’s, we get ripped off with iTunes as well. And there’s so much more. Being down under has its drawbacks.

But at least we can get B&Js and iTunes at all.
