RSPCA Cupcake Day

Cupcake Day

RSPCA Cupcake Day is back again this year.

Monday August 17th (my birthday!) is Cupcake Day for the RSPCA. RSPCA Cupcake Cooks across Australia will descend on their schools, workplaces and social groups with batches of yummy homemade cupcakes to sell. With 100% of the proceeds will go to the RSPCA.

Whether you want to be an RSPCA Cupcake Cook or simply an RSPCA Cupcake eater, you will be supporting the thousands of animals they care for everyday.

To get involved and host your own Cupcake party all you need to do is go to the site and register your details and the will send you a Cupcake kit for all the details you will need to know for the day! Or you can download it from the site.

They even have dog cupcake recipess!

Anyone can get involved to bake or eat cupcakes for the animals. I think I will be going on a weekend long cupcake bender!

Pet Memorials

At our place, the four legged children are just as special as the 2 legged variety. It can be devastating when we lose a furry loved one. I wished I had known about these products back when we lost a very special cat 12mths ago.

My Best Friends has 2 special products to help remember your furry loved ones. Designed and manufactured in Australia by artist Karina Clarke.

Burial bones are designed to be a personal memorial and acts as a marker of the special spot in your garden for your much loved pet. The bones come in bone or charcoal colour and are made from vitrified ceramic which can be painted. You can attach you pets collar around the cross for added personalisation. $84AUD.

Stacking Stones are hollow stones designed to contain your pet’s ashes inside for you to display in your home or garden. Stacking Stones are a series of urns that can be arranged to form a burial memorial for your much-loved pet. Each Stacking Stone comes with a stainless steel disc for inscribing a special message. No price for these on the site as yet, you need to contact them for more details.

Gift voucher from The Tea Room at QVB

A group of friends and I were trying to work out what to buy a friend as a collective gift earlier this week. We don’t like giving something that’s just going to go to waste and we normally go for something like a voucher for a visit to a day spa or fancy restaurant.

We decided to go for a voucher for The Tea Room, which is apparently quite a popular place to go for fancy afternoon teas (High Tea). They have one location on the north shore of Sydney, but we went for the one up on the top floor of the QVB. You can read Not Quite Nigella’s review here.

There are lots of other stunning places to go to for High Tea, but we ended up choosing The Tea Room for a couple of reasons:

  • Gift vouchers can be bought directly through their web site
  • Gift vouchers can be for a dollar amount or for a specific menu item (like the champagne afternoon tea)

The gift voucher arrived in the post on Friday, and look at the way it’s presented:

It’s stunning, isn’t it?

We can’t wait to hand this over to our birthday-girl on Thursday!

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer on Wii

EA Sports Active Personal trainer for Wii was released yesterday. I have been having fun the last few days trying it out (my quads however have not enjoyed the experience so much)

The game has been developed in collaboration with fitness experts, including Bob Greene – renowned exercise physiologist, author and Oprah Winfrey’s personal trainer. EA Sports Active is perfect for the whole family, though designed specifically for women seeking a simple, fun and cost-effective way to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

EA Sports Active Personal Trainer on Wii

EA Sports Active Personal trainer for Wii was released yesterday. I have been having fun the last few days trying it out (my quads however have not enjoyed the experience so much)

Lets face it, Wii fit is fun but it really fails as an overall work out. Bit of yoga and some fun mini games, you’d be hard pressed breaking a sweat. We have been waiting for a game to truly bring work outs and exercise to your Wii.

The game comes with a leg strap (to hold the Nunchuk when performing lower body routines) and a resistance band (for increasing the intensity of upper body routines) The game is compatible with your Wii balance board, but you are able to play the game just as well without one.

There is a great range of different exercises to target your upper and lower body as well as cardio to get your heart rate pumping. It allows you to select the intensity of your workouts, so you are in complete control of how hard you work.

I stared the game’s built in 30 day challenge. This gives you 20 different workouts ( it gives you rest days) each day giving you a good overall body workouts with a variety of different exercises.

It will predict the exact amount of calories your work out will burn depending on your personal details (height, weight, age) entered in your profile. It shows a counter through out your entire workout showing you the calories ticking over as you exercise..a great motivator.

I was not expecting much after wiifit, but it honestly gave me a great workout, certainly got my heart rate moving and I worked up a good sweat. I have done 2 days routines, both lasted about 30mins and burning around 200 calories on an intermediate intensity. Looking forward to completing the challenge, I honestly think if you stick at it and do the work outs correctly you will really see results as the end of the 30 days.

EA Sports Active is fun and easy way for anyone to get a great work out at home. If you have tried it out, would love to hear what you thought of it.

RRP is $100AUD for this game, but shop around. Many places had it for around $70AUD
